Identify the Euclidean plane with C\mathbb CC and use the complex coordinates X=zX=zX=z, Y=zˉY=\bar zY=zˉ. Let d≥1d\ge 1d≥1 be an integer and let C={z∈C:zd+zˉ d−2=0}={z∈C:Re⁡(zd)=1}C=\{z\in\mathbb C: z^d+\bar z^{\,d}-2=0\}=\{z\in\mathbb C: \operatorname{Re}(z^d)=1\}C={z∈C:zd+zˉd−2=0}={z∈C:Re(zd)=1} be the real locus of Xd+Yd−2X^d+Y^d-2Xd+Yd−2. Then CCC is not a circle:

C≠{z∈C:∣z−c∣=R}for every c∈C and every real R>0.C\ne\{z\in\mathbb C: |z-c|=R\}\qquad\text{for every }c\in\mathbb C\text{ and every real }R>0.C={z∈C:∣z−c∣=R}for every c∈C and every real R>0.

This verifies, for the sharpness examples Re⁡(zd)=1\operatorname{Re}(z^d)=1Re(zd)=1 in the proof of Theorem 1, the hypothesis that the curve is not a circle.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
