Let x,a,m,C,κ,εx,a,m,C,\kappa,\varepsilonx,a,m,C,κ,ε be real numbers with x≥0x\ge0x≥0, a≥0a\ge0a≥0, m≥0m\ge0m≥0, C>0C>0C>0, κ≥0\kappa\ge0κ≥0, ε>0\varepsilon>0ε>0, and suppose

κ≤ε24(ε+2)C2andx≤a+2κ C m.\kappa\le\frac{\varepsilon^2}{4(\varepsilon+2)C^2}\qquad\text{and}\qquad x\le a+\sqrt{2\kappa}\,C\,m .κ≤4(ε+2)C2ε2andx≤a+2κCm.

Then

x2≤a2+ε2(a2+m2).x^2\le a^2+\frac\varepsilon2\bigl(a^2+m^2\bigr).x2≤a2+2ε(a2+m2).

So a bound x≤a+(small)⋅mx\le a+(\text{small})\cdot mx≤a+(small)⋅m with a perturbation coefficient 2κC\sqrt{2\kappa}C2κC that is small relative to ε\varepsilonε yields a squared bound with only an ε/2\varepsilon/2ε/2 relative loss. It is used to absorb the output-replacement error term, of size 2κ\sqrt{2\kappa}2κ, into an arbitrarily small multiplicative slack.

Formalization Note The hypotheses a≥0a\ge0a≥0 and m≥0m\ge0m≥0 appear in the Lean statement (as unused named hypotheses); the argument needs only x≥0x\ge0x≥0, C>0C>0C>0, κ≥0\kappa\ge0κ≥0, ε>0\varepsilon>0ε>0.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
