Let π>0\pi>0π>0 and let x,ex,ex,e be real numbers. The effort eee maximizes the shareholder's net utility y↦xy−y2/(2π)y\mapsto xy-y^2/(2\pi)y↦xy−y2/(2π) if and only if

e=πx.e=\pi x.e=πx.

This is the first step of the proof of Proposition 2: it turns the incentive constraint (6)/(32) into an explicit formula, so that the firm's program reduces to a choice of the retained stake xxx and of investment.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
