Let KKK be a totally complex number field of degree four over Q\mathbb{Q}Q, and let ppp be any prime, including 222. Then the Leopoldt defect of KKK at ppp vanishes. This includes all quartic CM fields, whether or not they are Galois. Dirichlet’s formula gives unit rank r1+r2−1=0+2−1=1r_1+r_2-1=0+2-1=1r1+r2−1=0+2−1=1; one infinite-order unit remains of infinite order in the semilocal ppp-adic completion, giving the full required rank.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
