For every ϕ>0\phi > 0ϕ>0 there are thresholds cdCc_d^CcdC, cdS1c_d^{S1}cdS1, cdS2c_d^{S2}cdS2, depending only on ϕ\phiϕ, that satisfy the conclusions of Proposition 2 (for cdCc_d^CcdC) and of Proposition 3 (for cdS1,cdS2c_d^{S1}, c_d^{S2}cdS1,cdS2, either first mover), and

cdS1<cdC<cdS2.c_d^{S1} < c_d^C < c_d^{S2}.cdS1<cdC<cdS2.

The ordering divides cd>0c_d > 0cd>0 into the four regions A–D of Figure 1, which the comparison of the two protocols uses.

Formalization Note. The pricing stage is the Bayesian game of §4.1 on the signal model; the ex ante profits MMM, RRR are those of an arbitrary pricing-equilibrium family, not the §4.2 closed forms. Wholesale strategies are measurable, square-integrable functions of the signal value (constants for an uninformed manufacturer); the production cost is bq+cq2bq + cq^2bq+cq2 with c=cd>0c = c_d > 0c=cd>0 and b>0b > 0b>0; manufacturers are indexed by {0,1}\{0,1\}{0,1}.

/-- Proposition 4(a), p. 254: the thresholds of Propositions 2 and 3 satisfy
`c_d^{S1} < c_d^C < c_d^{S2}`. Stated as one existential: thresholds depending only on `φ` that
satisfy the conclusions of Propositions 2 and 3 and are so ordered. -/

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
