Error of slice-wise tensor product approximations (Lemma 2.11)

Proved
IntMul.HvdH.tensor_error

by xuanji · Oct 11, 2026 · Mathlib 0df444a (Lean v4.33.1)

integer-multiplication

Let d≥0d\ge0d≥0. For each axis iii let AiA_iAi be a one-dimensional map that is nonexpansive for the max-norm (as is any linear map of norm ≤1\le1≤1). Let A~i\tilde A_iA~i map the closed unit ball into itself and approximate AiA_iAi there with error at most eie_iei in every entry. Then for every array xxx in the unit ball, the slice-wise tensor products (see IntMul_HvdH_SliceTensor) satisfy

∥(⨂iA~i)x−(⨂iAi)x∥∞≤∑iei.\Bigl\|\Bigl(\bigotimes_i\tilde A_i\Bigr)x-\Bigl(\bigotimes_iA_i\Bigr)x\Bigr\|_\infty\le\sum_ie_i.(i⨂A~i)x−(i⨂Ai)x∞≤i∑ei.

This is the error statement ε(A~)≤∑iε(A~i)\varepsilon(\tilde A)\le\sum_i\varepsilon(\tilde A_i)ε(A~)≤∑iε(A~i) of Lemma 2.11 of Harvey–van der Hoeven.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
