A tree witness is a function θ(k,r)∈{0,1}\theta(k,r)\in\{0,1\}θ(k,r)∈{0,1} on the nodes (k,r)(k,r)(k,r), 0≤r<2k0\le r<2^k0≤r<2k, of the binary tree of residues. For distinct integers x,yx,yx,y with k=ν2(y−x)k=\nu_2(y-x)k=ν2(y−x), put x≺θyx\prec_\theta yx≺θy iff bitk(x)=θ(k, x mod 2k)\mathrm{bit}_k(x)=\theta(k,\,x\bmod 2^k)bitk(x)=θ(k,xmod2k). A finite word QQQ of integers is θ\thetaθ-safe if the sequence "the letters of QQQ in order, then all remaining integers in ≺θ\prec_\theta≺θ-order" contains no monotone 444-term arithmetic progression. QQQ is SAFE if it is θ\thetaθ-safe for some tree witness θ\thetaθ. For a word A=(x1,…,xn)A=(x_1,\dots,x_n)A=(x1,…,xn) and an affine map ggg, g(A)=(g(x1),…,g(xn))g(A)=(g(x_1),\dots,g(x_n))g(A)=(g(x1),…,g(xn)) keeps the original order, and ⋅\cdot⋅ denotes concatenation.

Theorem (restricted absorption at every depth L≥5L\ge5L≥5). Let L≥5L\ge 5L≥5, let rrr be odd, and let AAA be a SAFE word all of whose letters are ≡r(mod2L)\equiv r\pmod{2^L}≡r(mod2L). Let aaa be even, b≡r+2(mod4)b\equiv r+2\pmod 4b≡r+2(mod4), and let y≠ay\neq ay=a satisfy

2y−b≡r+2L−1(mod2L).2y-b\equiv r+2^{L-1}\pmod{2^L}.2y−b≡r+2L−1(mod2L).

Then the word

a⋅A⋅b⋅(2y−b)⋅(2y−A)⋅y⋅(12y−11b)⋅(10y−10b+A)⋅(6y−5b)a\cdot A\cdot b\cdot(2y-b)\cdot(2y-A)\cdot y\cdot(12y-11b)\cdot(10y-10b+A)\cdot(6y-5b)a⋅A⋅b⋅(2y−b)⋅(2y−A)⋅y⋅(12y−11b)⋅(10y−10b+A)⋅(6y−5b)

is SAFE.

Equivalently, put c=2y−bc=2y-bc=2y−b. If all letters of AAA lie in the sibling ball of ccc at some common 222-adic depth ν=L−1≥4\nu=L-1\ge4ν=L−1≥4, then the prefix (a)⋅A⋅(b)(a)\cdot A\cdot(b)(a)⋅A⋅(b) absorbs the target yyy with the explicit batch of 2∣A∣+42|A|+42∣A∣+4 letters above. There is no size condition on yyy. For a fixed prefix whose block AAA is ≡r(mod2L0)\equiv r\pmod{2^{L_0}}≡r(mod2L0), this covers every target with 4≤ν2(2y−b−r)≤L0−14\le\nu_2(2y-b-r)\le L_0-14≤ν2(2y−b−r)≤L0−1. The case L=5L=5L=5 is Erdos195.restricted_absorption (GPT Astra's mod-32 corollary). This is the general-LLL form of Astra's corollary. It is a positive absorption result for one infinite class of words in the tree-witness approach to Erdős Problem 195. It does not settle the problem.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
