Let AAA be a Dedekind domain with field of fractions KKK, and identify AAA with its image in KKK. For a nonzero prime ideal p\mathfrak pp of AAA, let Ap={a/s: a∈A, s∈A∖p}⊆KA_{\mathfrak p}=\{a/s:\ a\in A,\ s\in A\setminus\mathfrak p\}\subseteq KAp={a/s: a∈A, s∈A∖p}⊆K be the localization, a valuation subring of KKK. For a valuation subring O\mathcal OO of KKK containing AAA, with maximal ideal mO\mathfrak m_{\mathcal O}mO, call c(O)={a∈A: a∈mO}\mathfrak c(\mathcal O)=\{a\in A:\ a\in\mathfrak m_{\mathcal O}\}c(O)={a∈A: a∈mO} its center in AAA. Then

c(Ap)=p.\mathfrak c(A_{\mathfrak p})=\mathfrak p.c(Ap)=p.

Together with the converse (a valuation subring of KKK containing AAA and different from KKK is the localization at its center), this matches the places of KKK containing AAA with the nonzero primes of AAA. It is applied to the coordinate ring of the double cover (7) to classify the places of its function field, for Lemma 4 and Remark 5.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
