Products are ordered by decreasing positive revenue, and MNL preference weights are nonnegative. For any customer type jjj and product iii, let Vi={1,…,i}V_i=\{1,\ldots,i\}Vi={1,…,i} and let fj(S)f_j(S)fj(S) be the greatest expected revenue from a subset of SSS. Then

S⟼min⁡(fj(S),ri)S\longmapsto\min(f_j(S),r_i)S⟼min(fj(S),ri)

is submodular on ViV_iVi, in the diminishing-marginal sense of the paper's footnote 1.

This local submodularity property is the reason the objective of each Augmented Greedy iteration has a greedy approximation guarantee.

Formalization Note The statement quantifies over every type jjj, which includes every j∈Cj\in Cj∈C in the paper. Lean's index iii corresponds to the paper's i+1i+1i+1.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
