This formalizes the scalar exhaustion part of Lemma A.4 of Letwin (arXiv:2607.24164v1), p. 17.

For every a∈Ra\in\mathbb Ra∈R, define

χR=smoothTransition⁡(2−a/R).\chi_R=\operatorname{smoothTransition}(2-a/R).χR=smoothTransition(2−a/R).

As a function of the positive parameter RRR, χR\chi_RχR is monotone on (0,∞)(0,\infty)(0,∞), and

lim⁡R→∞smoothTransition⁡(2−a/R)=1.\lim_{R\to\infty}\operatorname{smoothTransition}(2-a/R)=1.R→∞limsmoothTransition(2−a/R)=1.

The limit is expressed as convergence along the real filter atTop to the neighborhood of 111.

This is a scalar monotone-exhaustion tool for cutoff constructions.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
