Let LLL be a finite abstract simplicial complex on the vertex set [m][m][m] and L′L'L′ one on [m′][m'][m′], and suppose a bijection e:[m]→[m′]e : [m] \to [m']e:[m]→[m′] is an isomorphism of complexes, meaning that a finite set of vertices is a face of LLL if and only if its image under eee is a face of L′L'L′.

Then the associated moment-angle complexes are homeomorphic by a homeomorphism carrying the all-ones basepoint to the all-ones basepoint:

ZL  ≅  ZL′,(1,…,1)↦(1,…,1).\mathcal Z_L \;\cong\; \mathcal Z_{L'}, \qquad (1,\dots,1) \mapsto (1,\dots,1).ZL≅ZL′,(1,…,1)↦(1,…,1).

The homeomorphism is the permutation of complex coordinates along eee. A point of ZL\mathcal Z_LZL is a vector z∈C[m]z \in \mathbb C^{[m]}z∈C[m] for which there is a face (or the empty face) σ\sigmaσ with ∣zi∣≤1|z_i| \le 1∣zi∣≤1 for i∈σi \in \sigmai∈σ and ∣zi∣=1|z_i| = 1∣zi∣=1 otherwise; relabelling the coordinates replaces σ\sigmaσ by its image e(σ)e(\sigma)e(σ), which is a face of L′L'L′ exactly by the isomorphism hypothesis. The inverse relabelling is the corresponding map for e−1e^{-1}e−1, and both are continuous coordinatewise. The all-ones point is fixed by any permutation of coordinates.

Because the homeomorphism is basepoint-preserving, it also identifies the based loop spaces ΩZL≅ΩZL′\Omega \mathcal Z_L \cong \Omega \mathcal Z_{L'}ΩZL≅ΩZL′, and hence all the homological invariants used in this mission. The role of the statement is to let a construction performed on a structured vertex set be transported to the standard vertex set [m][m][m] in which the mission's theorems are phrased.

Formalization Note The moment-angle complex is the mission's subspace of (D2)m(D^2)^m(D2)m, the basepoint is the all-ones point, and the conclusion asserts the existence of a homeomorphism sending basepoint to basepoint.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
