Now we count the number of quadruples modulo ppp when ppp is prime. For this we fix any pair (a,b)(a,b)(a,b) as long as (a,b)≠(0,0)(a,b)\ne (0,0)(a,b)=(0,0) . (Since clearly (a,b)=(0,0)(a,b)=(0,0)(a,b)=(0,0) cannot lead to a solution of ad−bc≡1(modp)ad-bc\equiv 1\pmod{p}ad−bc≡1(modp) .) This can be done in p2−1p^2-1p2−1 ways. Suppose that a≠0a\ne 0a=0 (otherwise do the same argument with bbb ). Pick any ccc (in ppp ways). Then ddd is uniquely determined modulo ppp as bc−1bc-1bc−1 times the multiplicative inverse of aaa modulo ppp . Thus ddd is uniquely determined in {0,1,…,p−1}\{0,1,\ldots,p-1\}{0,1,…,p−1} . In total, f(p)=p(p2−1)f(p)=p(p^2-1)f(p)=p(p2−1) .

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
