For every natural number x≤4⋅1018x \le 4\cdot 10^{18}x≤4⋅1018 there exists a prime ppp with

x<p<x+4⋅1018.x < p < x + 4\cdot 10^{18}.x<p<x+4⋅1018.

This is the elementary base of the window-covering statement used to build the Helfgott–Platt prime ladder. For x≥1x \ge 1x≥1 it follows from Bertrand's postulate, which provides a prime ppp with x<p≤2xx < p \le 2xx<p≤2x, and 2x≤x+4⋅10182x \le x + 4\cdot 10^{18}2x≤x+4⋅1018 when x≤4⋅1018x \le 4\cdot 10^{18}x≤4⋅1018; the case x=0x = 0x=0 is witnessed by p=3p = 3p=3.

Formalization Note Mathlib supplies Bertrand's postulate as Nat.exists_prime_lt_and_le_two_mul.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
