Let XXX be a finite data universe, CCC a finite class of at least three predicates φ:X→{0,1}\varphi:X\to\{0,1\}φ:X→{0,1}, and α>0\alpha>0α>0. A minimum α\alphaα-net Nα(C)N_\alpha(C)Nα(C) for the counting queries of CCC exists, and

∣Nα(C)∣ ≤ ∣X∣⌈log⁡∣C∣/α2⌉.|N_\alpha(C)|\ \le\ |X|^{\lceil \log|C|/\alpha^2\rceil}.∣Nα(C)∣ ≤ ∣X∣⌈log∣C∣/α2⌉.

Combined with Corollary 3.5, it gives the utility of the Net mechanism for finite classes of counting queries.

Formalization Note The exponent is rounded up to an integer, matching the database size of Lemma 3.7. The bound is stated for every minimum net (all have the same size), together with the existence of one. Logarithms are natural; ∣C∣≥3|C|\ge3∣C∣≥3 is the hypothesis of Lemma 3.7.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
