Fix a subextremal Kerr–Newman background (M>0M>0M>0, Q≠0Q\neq 0Q=0, a2+Q2<M2a^2+Q^2<M^2a2+Q2<M2), the domain U={r>r+, 0<θ<π}U=\{r>r_+,\ 0<\theta<\pi\}U={r>r+, 0<θ<π}, a real frequency ω\omegaω, a real azimuthal number mmm, and a real spin parameter ς\varsigmaς (the paper's positive- and negative-spin systems are the instances ς=+1\varsigma=+1ς=+1 and ς=−1\varsigma=-1ς=−1). Let y+,y− ⁣:U→C2y_+, y_-\colon U\to\mathbb{C}^2y+,y−:U→C2 be C∞C^\inftyC∞ fields and x∈Ux\in Ux∈U. Then the two statements below are equivalent.

System (4) at xxx (Hintz eq. (4), both equations):

(D−−A)y+=(c(ς)I−B(ς))y−,(D++A)y−=(c(ς)I+B(ς))y+,\bigl(D^- - A\bigr)y_+ = \bigl(c^{(\varsigma)}I - B^{(\varsigma)}\bigr)y_- ,\qquad \bigl(D^+ + A\bigr)y_- = \bigl(c^{(\varsigma)}I + B^{(\varsigma)}\bigr)y_+ ,(D−−A)y+=(c(ς)I−B(ς))y−,(D++A)y−=(c(ς)I+B(ς))y+,

where D−=Δ ∂r−i ∂θ,D+=Δ ∂r+i ∂θD^- = \sqrt{\Delta}\,\partial_r-i\,\partial_\theta,\quad D^+ = \sqrt{\Delta}\,\partial_r+i\,\partial_\thetaD−=Δ∂r−i∂θ,D+=Δ∂r+i∂θ, AAA is the Hermitian off-diagonal matrix of eq. (4), c(ς)=(ςiKΔ+3ρˉ∗−3Δ′4Δ)Δc^{(\varsigma)} = \bigl(\varsigma\tfrac{iK}{\Delta} + \tfrac{3}{\bar\rho^*} - \tfrac{3\Delta'}{4\Delta}\bigr)\sqrt{\Delta}c(ς)=(ςΔiK+ρˉ∗3−4Δ3Δ′)Δ and B(ς)B^{(\varsigma)}B(ς) is the traceless matrix of eq. (4).

System (7) at xxx for the transformed variables z+:=adj⁡(X) y+z_+ := \operatorname{adj}(X)\,y_+z+:=adj(X)y+ (which equals (det⁡X)X−1y+(\det X)X^{-1}y_+(detX)X−1y+) and z−:=X∗y−z_- := X^*y_-z−:=X∗y−:

D−z+=C(ς) z−,D+z−=adj⁡(C(ς)) z+,D^- z_+ = C^{(\varsigma)}\,z_- ,\qquad D^+ z_- = \operatorname{adj}\bigl(C^{(\varsigma)}\bigr)\,z_+ ,D−z+=C(ς)z−,D+z−=adj(C(ς))z+,

with C(ς)=(det⁡X)X−1(c(ς)I−B(ς))(X∗)−1C^{(\varsigma)} = (\det X)X^{-1}(c^{(\varsigma)}I - B^{(\varsigma)})(X^*)^{-1}C(ς)=(detX)X−1(c(ς)I−B(ς))(X∗)−1.

The forward direction is the two transport lemmas for z±z_\pmz±; the backward direction applies the inverse-transformation lemmas to z±z_\pmz± and then uses the round trips (Q2−M2)−1Xadj⁡(X)=I(Q^2-M^2)^{-1}X\operatorname{adj}(X) = I(Q2−M2)−1Xadj(X)=I and (X∗)−1X∗=I(X^*)^{-1}X^* = I(X∗)−1X∗=I on UUU, together with the locality of D±D^\pmD± (they depend only on values in UUU). Both spin directions are covered by the single real parameter ς\varsigmaς; no frequency or mode restriction beyond ω,m∈R\omega, m\in\mathbb{R}ω,m∈R is used. Together with Cmat_eq_Csep and adjugate_Csep_eq, this yields the separated-coefficient version of (7), from which the paper writes the block form (8). This theorem itself is the (4) iff (7) statement; it is not a separate theorem about the full four-component differential operator in (8), nor about spectral separation.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
