This statement formalizes the smooth-recovery inequality for a globally Lipschitz test.

Let VVV be a finite-dimensional real inner-product space with complete Borel measurable and second-countable structure. Let ν\nuν be a probability measure on VVV, let g:V→Rg:V\to\mathbb Rg:V→R, and let K∈[0,∞)K\in[0,\infty)K∈[0,∞). Assume:

  1. ggg is globally KKK-Lipschitz, expressed by LipschitzWith K g.
  2. ggg belongs to L2(ν)L^2(\nu)L2(ν), expressed by MemLp g 2 (\nu : Measure V).

Then the smooth-gradient relaxation of the L2(ν)L^2(\nu)L2(ν) class of ggg is bounded above by its asymptotic-Lipschitz energy:

relaxation⁡(ν)([g]L2(ν))≤AsymptoticLipschitz.energy⁡(ν,g).\operatorname{relaxation}(\nu)([g]_{L^2(\nu)}) \leq \operatorname{AsymptoticLipschitz.energy}(\nu,g).relaxation(ν)([g]L2(ν))≤AsymptoticLipschitz.energy(ν,g).

Both sides are extended-valued energies in [0,∞][0,\infty][0,∞]. This is a reusable smooth-recovery estimate for globally Lipschitz functions.
