For a basis eee and weights vvv let Qe,v(T)=∑i,lL(vi,vl)∣⟨ei,Tel⟩∣2Q_{e,v}(T)=\sum_{i,l}L(v_i,v_l)|\langle e_i,Te_l\rangle|^2Qe,v(T)=∑i,lL(vi,vl)∣⟨ei,Tel⟩∣2 and ce,v(T)=T−(∑ivi⟨ei,Tei⟩)Id\mathrm c_{e,v}(T)=T-(\sum_iv_i\langle e_i,Te_i\rangle)\mathrm{Id}ce,v(T)=T−(∑ivi⟨ei,Tei⟩)Id, and let Z(e,v)\mathcal Z(e,v)Z(e,v) be the span of ∣ei⟩⟨el∣−δilviId|e_i\rangle\langle e_l|-\delta_{il}v_i\mathrm{Id}∣ei⟩⟨el∣−δilviId. Let A1(Z)A_1(Z)A1(Z) be the partial expectation, over the second input in state σ\sigmaσ, of the Heisenberg dual of the two-stage map (mix the inputs at η\etaη, then mix with τd\tau_dτd at θ\thetaθ, keep the retained port) applied to ZZZ, and A2(Z)A_2(Z)A2(Z) the partial expectation over the first input in state ρ\rhoρ.

Theorem. Let ζ>0\zeta>0ζ>0, let ρ,σ\rho,\sigmaρ,σ be states with finite sixth moments, and let G1,G2,G0G_1,G_2,G_0G1,G2,G0 be spectral logarithm data of ρ\rhoρ, σ\sigmaσ and ω(ρ,σ)\omega(\rho,\sigma)ω(ρ,σ) (bases e(i)e^{(i)}e(i), probabilities v(i)v^{(i)}v(i)). Assume for all Z∈Z(e(0),v(0))Z\in\mathcal Z(e^{(0)},v^{(0)})Z∈Z(e(0),v(0))

(1−κ)2Qe(1),v(1)(ce(1),v(1)(A1Z))≤(1+ε)w1/h(r1)1/h(r0) Qe(0),v(0)(Z),(1−κ)2Qe(2),v(2)(ce(2),v(2)(A2Z))≤(1+ε)w2/h(r2)1/h(r0) Qe(0),v(0)(Z).(1-\kappa)^2Q_{e^{(1)},v^{(1)}}\bigl(\mathrm c_{e^{(1)},v^{(1)}}(A_1Z)\bigr)\le\frac{(1+\varepsilon)w_1/h(r_1)}{1/h(r_0)}\,Q_{e^{(0)},v^{(0)}}(Z),\qquad(1-\kappa)^2Q_{e^{(2)},v^{(2)}}\bigl(\mathrm c_{e^{(2)},v^{(2)}}(A_2Z)\bigr)\le\frac{(1+\varepsilon)w_2/h(r_2)}{1/h(r_0)}\,Q_{e^{(0)},v^{(0)}}(Z).(1−κ)2Qe(1),v(1)(ce(1),v(1)(A1Z))≤1/h(r0)(1+ε)w1/h(r1)Qe(0),v(0)(Z),(1−κ)2Qe(2),v(2)(ce(2),v(2)(A2Z))≤1/h(r0)(1+ε)w2/h(r2)Qe(0),v(0)(Z).

Then

Dr0(G0)≤w1Dr1(G1)+w2Dr2(G2)+ε2(w1Dr1(G1)+w2Dr2(G2)+w1M(G1)+w2M(G2)).\mathsf D_{r_0}(G_0)\le w_1\mathsf D_{r_1}(G_1)+w_2\mathsf D_{r_2}(G_2)+\frac\varepsilon2\Bigl(w_1\mathsf D_{r_1}(G_1)+w_2\mathsf D_{r_2}(G_2)+w_1\mathsf M(G_1)+w_2\mathsf M(G_2)\Bigr).Dr0(G0)≤w1Dr1(G1)+w2Dr2(G2)+2ε(w1Dr1(G1)+w2Dr2(G2)+w1M(G1)+w2M(G2)).

So the total thermal-balance defect of the output is controlled by the weighted input defects, with an ε/2\varepsilon/2ε/2 relative loss that also involves the input means; this is one half of the cancellation argument for the minimizers.

Formalization Note The data are the structure ThermalSetup and its regularization P.reg n ζ hζ; Dt\mathsf D_tDt and M\mathsf MM are defectSquared and meanSquared; A1,A2A_1,A_2A1,A2 are rawFirstSlice P.η P.θ … σ (thermalState n P.d P.hd) and rawSecondSlice … ρ ….
