For an indexed configuration p=(p1,…,pn)p=(p_1,\dots,p_n)p=(p1,…,pn) of points in the plane, let R(p)={∣pi−pj∣:i≠j}R(p)=\{|p_i-p_j|: i\ne j\}R(p)={∣pi−pj∣:i=j} be its set of distance values and dr(x)=#{j≠x:∣px−pj∣=r}d_r(x)=\#\{j\ne x: |p_x-p_j|=r\}dr(x)=#{j=x:∣px−pj∣=r} the number of configuration points at distance rrr from pxp_xpx (the public definitions OrderedDistanceValues and DistanceOutNeighborsAtValue). This module defines five counting objects.

  1. EquidistantWitnesses P a b: for a finite set P⊂R2P\subset\mathbb R^2P⊂R2 and points a,ba,ba,b, the points x∈Px\in Px∈P with ∣x−a∣=∣x−b∣|x-a|=|x-b|∣x−a∣=∣x−b∣.
  2. IndexedEquidistantWitnesses p i j: the indices xxx with ∣px−pi∣=∣px−pj∣|p_x-p_i|=|p_x-p_j|∣px−pi∣=∣px−pj∣.
  3. OrderedPairWitnessTotal p: the sum of the sizes of these index sets over all ordered pairs (i,j)(i,j)(i,j) of distinct indices,
∑i≠j#{ x: ∣px−pi∣=∣px−pj∣ }.\sum_{i\ne j}\#\{\,x:\ |p_x-p_i|=|p_x-p_j|\,\}.i=j∑#{x: ∣px−pi∣=∣px−pj∣}.
  1. ApexEqualDistancePairs p x: the ordered pairs (a,b)(a,b)(a,b) of distinct indices, both different from xxx, with ∣px−pa∣=∣px−pb∣|p_x-p_a|=|p_x-p_b|∣px−pa∣=∣px−pb∣.
  2. DistanceDegreeFallingMass p: the sum
∑r∈R(p) ∑xdr(x)(dr(x)−1).\sum_{r\in R(p)}\ \sum_{x} d_r(x)\bigl(d_r(x)-1\bigr).r∈R(p)∑ x∑dr(x)(dr(x)−1).

For an injective configuration the witness total equals the falling mass: both count the triples (x,a,b)(x,a,b)(x,a,b) of indices with a≠ba\ne ba=b and ∣px−pa∣=∣px−pb∣|p_x-p_a|=|p_x-p_b|∣px−pa∣=∣px−pb∣. These counts compare equidistant witnesses with the number of distinct distances.

Formalization Note Indices are elements of Fin n. In the falling mass, dr(x)−1d_r(x)-1dr(x)−1 is natural-number subtraction; the product is 000 when dr(x)=0d_r(x)=0dr(x)=0 in either convention.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
