This theorem is the lower half of L(4)=16L(4) = 16L(4)=16.

For a natural number LLL, let P4(L)P_4(L)P4(L) be the property of Definition 5.1 of Eliahou and Revuelta at n=4n = 4n=4: every sequence AAA of positive integers with ∣A∣=L|A| = L∣A∣=L and average μ(A)≤4\mu(A) \le 4μ(A)≤4 has sdeg⁡(A^)≥4\operatorname{sdeg}(\hat A) \ge 4sdeg(A^)≥4. Here A^\hat AA^ is the set of sums of the nonempty runs of consecutive entries of AAA, and sdeg⁡(X)\operatorname{sdeg}(X)sdeg(X) is the least n≥1n \ge 1n≥1 such that XXX is covered by nnn sumfree sets (∞\infty∞ if there is none). Then

¬P4(L)for every L with 1≤L≤15.\neg P_4(L) \qquad \text{for every } L \text{ with } 1 \le L \le 15 .¬P4(L)for every L with 1≤L≤15.

That is, for each such LLL there is a sequence AAA of LLL positive integers with μ(A)≤4\mu(A) \le 4μ(A)≤4 and sdeg⁡(A^)≤3\operatorname{sdeg}(\hat A) \le 3sdeg(A^)≤3.

Since L(4)L(4)L(4) is the least positive LLL such that P4(L)P_4(L)P4(L) holds, this gives L(4)≥16L(4) \ge 16L(4)≥16. The case L=14L = 14L=14 answers, in the negative, the question that Eliahou and Revuelta ask after Conjecture 5.6: whether every sequence of positive integers of length 141414 and average at most 444 has sdeg⁡(A^)≥4\operatorname{sdeg}(\hat A) \ge 4sdeg(A^)≥4.

Formalization Note P4(L)P_4(L)P4(L) is ERProperty 4 L of the Basic bundle: the average is computed in Q\mathbb{Q}Q, and the Schur degree in the extended naturals, where sdeg⁡(A^)≤3\operatorname{sdeg}(\hat A) \le 3sdeg(A^)≤3 is the negation of sdeg⁡(A^)≥4\operatorname{sdeg}(\hat A) \ge 4sdeg(A^)≥4.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
