We let sss be the slower boat speed. Then s+5s+5s+5 is the faster boats speed. In 222 hours the slower boat will have gone 2s2s2s km and in 111 hours the faster boat will have gone s+5s+5s+5 km. We use LoC (Law of Cosines) to find the distance between boats is (2s)2+(s+5)2−2(2s)(s+5)cos⁡(60∘)=3s2+25\sqrt{(2s)^2+(s+5)^2-2(2s)(s+5)\cos(60^{\circ})}=\sqrt{3s^2+25}(2s)2+(s+5)2−2(2s)(s+5)cos(60∘)=3s2+25 . Setting 3s2+25=10\sqrt{3s^2+25}=103s2+25=10 gives us s=5s=5s=5 km/h.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
