This is the finite-dimensional pointwise compactness theorem for convex functions, used in the compactness argument for Lemma 17 of Cordero–Erausquin–Klartag, Moment measures (arXiv:1304.0630v1), cited as a partial formalization.

Let EEE be finite-dimensional over R\mathbb RR, let K⊆EK\subseteq EK⊆E be open, and let fj:E→Rf_j:E\to\mathbb Rfj:E→R. Assume:

  1. Each fjf_jfj is convex on KKK.
  2. fj(x)≥0f_j(x)\ge0fj(x)≥0 for every x∈Kx\in Kx∈K.
  3. For each x∈Kx\in Kx∈K, the set {fj(x):j∈N}\{f_j(x):j\in\mathbb N\}{fj(x):j∈N} is bounded above.

Then there exist a strictly increasing sequence s:N→Ns:\mathbb N\to\mathbb Ns:N→N and a function g:E→Rg:E\to\mathbb Rg:E→R such that ggg is convex on KKK and, for every x∈Kx\in Kx∈K,

fs(j)(x)⟶g(x).f_{s(j)}(x)\longrightarrow g(x).fs(j)(x)⟶g(x).

The conclusion also applies when KKK is empty.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
