Let m≥1m\ge 1m≥1 be an integer and α∈C\alpha\in\mathbb Cα∈C with α≠αˉ\alpha\ne\bar\alphaα=αˉ (that is, α\alphaα is not real), and let hα(t)=−t (tm+1) (αtm+αˉ)∈C[t]h_\alpha(t)=-t\,(t^m+1)\,(\alpha t^m+\bar\alpha)\in\mathbb C[t]hα(t)=−t(tm+1)(αtm+αˉ)∈C[t]. Let R=C[t][W]/(W2−hα(t))R=\mathbb C[t][W]/(W^2-h_\alpha(t))R=C[t][W]/(W2−hα(t)) and Lα=C(t)[W]/(W2−hα(t))L_\alpha=\mathbb C(t)[W]/(W^2-h_\alpha(t))Lα=C(t)[W]/(W2−hα(t)), with www the class of WWW in LαL_\alphaLα, and let φ ⁣:R→Lα\varphi\colon R\to L_\alphaφ:R→Lα be the C[t]\mathbb C[t]C[t]-algebra homomorphism with φ(W)=w\varphi(W)=wφ(W)=w. For c,d∈Cc,d\in\mathbb Cc,d∈C with d2=hα(c)d^2=h_\alpha(c)d2=hα(c), let ev⁡c,d ⁣:R→C\operatorname{ev}_{c,d}\colon R\to\mathbb Cevc,d:R→C be the evaluation t↦ct\mapsto ct↦c, W↦dW\mapsto dW↦d. Then:

  1. φ\varphiφ is injective;
  2. an element x∈Lαx\in L_\alphax∈Lα is integral over C[t]\mathbb C[t]C[t] if and only if x=φ(y)x=\varphi(y)x=φ(y) for some y∈Ry\in Ry∈R;
  3. an ideal m\mathfrak mm of RRR is maximal if and only if m=ker⁡ev⁡c,d\mathfrak m=\ker\operatorname{ev}_{c,d}m=kerevc,d for some c,d∈Cc,d\in\mathbb Cc,d∈C with d2=hα(c)d^2=h_\alpha(c)d2=hα(c).

Parts 1 and 2 say that φ\varphiφ identifies RRR with the integral closure of C[t]\mathbb C[t]C[t] in LαL_\alphaLα:

φ ⁣: C[t][W]/(W2−hα(t)) → ∼  {x∈Lα: x integral over C[t]}.\varphi\colon\ \mathbb C[t][W]/\big(W^2-h_\alpha(t)\big)\ \xrightarrow{\ \sim\ }\ \{x\in L_\alpha:\ x\ \text{integral over}\ \mathbb C[t]\}.φ: C[t][W]/(W2−hα(t))  ∼  {x∈Lα: x integral over C[t]}.

In terms of the double cover (7) from the proof of Lemma 4, whose function field is LαL_\alphaLα, this describes the normalization of VαV_\alphaVα over the affine ttt-line: its coordinate ring is RRR, and its points are the pairs (c,d)(c,d)(c,d) with d2=hα(c)d^2=h_\alpha(c)d2=hα(c).

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
