Let PPP be an integrable probability law on cost vectors in Rd\mathbb R^dRd, with mean cˉ=EP[c]\bar c=\mathbb E_P[c]cˉ=EP[c]. Let SSS be nonempty, compact, and convex, and let w∗w^*w∗ be an optimal-decision oracle. Suppose PPP is continuous on all of Rd\mathbb R^dRd and centrally symmetric about cˉ\bar ccˉ. Then, for every prediction c^\hat cc^,

RSPO+(cˉ)≤RSPO+(c^).R_{\mathrm{SPO+}}(\bar c)\le R_{\mathrm{SPO+}}(\hat c).RSPO+(cˉ)≤RSPO+(c^).

The mean is therefore a population minimizer of the surrogate risk.

Formalization Note “Continuous on all” means absolute continuity and full support. The latter is retained here because it is part of the paper's common premise for both parts of Proposition 6. Risk takes values in [0,∞][0,\infty][0,∞]; integrability of costs gives the finite-mean convention of §4.1.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
