Let ϱ\varrhoϱ be a taper profile and φ(u):=ϱ((L/2−∣u∣)/w)\varphi(u) := \varrho\big((L/2-|u|)/w\big)φ(u):=ϱ((L/2−∣u∣)/w) the taper of [eq:phidef], with 0<w0 < w0<w and 2w≤L2w \le L2w≤L. Following [eq:abdef], set

b  :=  L−1∫Rφ(u)4 du.b \;:=\; L^{-1}\int_{\mathbb{R}} \varphi(u)^4\,du.b:=L−1∫Rφ(u)4du.

The theorem asserts the lower bound

1−2wL  ≤  b.1 - \frac{2w}{L} \;\le\; b.1−L2w≤b.

It follows from φ=1\varphi = 1φ=1 on the plateau [−L/2+w, L/2−w][-L/2+w,\ L/2-w][−L/2+w, L/2−w] (of length L−2wL - 2wL−2w) together with φ4≥0\varphi^4 \ge 0φ4≥0.

In the project this shows b→1b \to 1b→1 as the ramps become negligible (w/L→0w/L \to 0w/L→0), which is how the taper constants enter the final optimization: it is consumed by Zeta23.PrimeSide.localHyps_concrete, Zeta23.Tail.eventually_tailPackage, Zeta23.eventually_blockInputs and Zeta23.eventually_side_conditions — the nodes assembling the asymptotic side conditions as T→∞T \to \inftyT→∞ for the matrix-variational bound behind Theorem A.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
