Let H(n)H(n)H(n) be as in Erdős Problem 624. Say TrackBad(n,m,s)\mathrm{TrackBad}(n,m,s)TrackBad(n,m,s) holds if for every family of maps gB:P(U)→Ug_B:\mathcal P(U)\to UgB:P(U)→U (∣U∣=n|U|=n∣U∣=n) indexed by the subsets BBB of an sss-set, there are Y⊆UY\subseteq UY⊆U with ∣Y∣=m|Y|=m∣Y∣=m and u∈Uu\in Uu∈U with u∉{gB(A):A⊆Y}u\notin\{g_B(A):A\subseteq Y\}u∈/{gB(A):A⊆Y} for every BBB. By Erdos624.track_amplification, TrackBad(n,m,s)\mathrm{TrackBad}(n,m,s)TrackBad(n,m,s) implies H(n+s)>m+sH(n+s)>m+sH(n+s)>m+s for n≥1n\ge1n≥1. Theorem. If k≥1k\ge1k≥1 and k(k+1)<2sk(k+1)<2^sk(k+1)<2s, then TrackBad(2k,k,s)\mathrm{TrackBad}(2^k,k,s)TrackBad(2k,k,s) is false: some family of 2s2^s2s maps on 2k2^k2k points has no common omitted value on any kkk-set.

With n=2kn=2^kn=2k, r=2sr=2^sr=2s: 2(n−1)n≤nn2(n-1)^n\le n^n2(n−1)n≤nn gives n(nk)(n−1)nr≤2k(k+1)(n−1)nr<2r(n−1)nr≤nnrn\binom nk(n-1)^{nr}\le 2^{k(k+1)}(n-1)^{nr}<2^r(n-1)^{nr}\le n^{nr}n(kn)(n−1)nr≤2k(k+1)(n−1)nr<2r(n−1)nr≤nnr, and the counting obstruction Erdos624.not_trackBad_count applies.

Formalization Note. U=Fin nU=\mathrm{Fin}\,nU=Finn and the sss-set is Fin s\mathrm{Fin}\,sFins, as in Erdos624.track_amplification.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
