Consider a Bayesian routing game with weighted potential

Φ(q)=∑s∑e∑tπ(s,t)∫0∑r∋e∑iqri(ti)ces(z) dz.\Phi(q)=\sum_{s}\sum_{e}\sum_{t}\pi(s,t)\int_0^{\sum_{r\ni e}\sum_{i}q^i_r(t^i)}c^s_e(z)\,dz .Φ(q)=s∑e∑t∑π(s,t)∫0∑r∋e∑iqri(ti)ces(z)dz.

Then Φ\PhiΦ is continuously differentiable, every type probability Pr⁡(ti)\Pr(t^i)Pr(ti) is positive, and for every strategy profile qqq, population iii, type tit^iti and route rrr,

∂Φ(q)∂qri(ti)=Pr⁡(ti) E[cr(q)∣ti].\frac{\partial\Phi(q)}{\partial q^i_r(t^i)}=\Pr(t^i)\,\mathbb E[c_r(q)\mid t^i].∂qri(ti)∂Φ(q)=Pr(ti)E[cr(q)∣ti].

That is, Γ(λ)\Gamma(\lambda)Γ(λ) is a weighted potential game in the sense of Sandholm, with positive type-specific weights γ(ti)=Pr⁡(ti)\gamma(t^i)=\Pr(t^i)γ(ti)=Pr(ti). This identity is what links equilibria to minimizers of Φ\PhiΦ.

Formalization Note The partial derivative is stated as a HasDerivAt of x↦Φ(q[(i,ti,r)↦x])x\mapsto\Phi(q[(i,t^i,r)\mapsto x])x↦Φ(q[(i,ti,r)↦x]) at x=qri(ti)x=q^i_r(t^i)x=qri(ti), for every qqq in the whole coordinate space (not only on Q(λ)\mathcal Q(\lambda)Q(λ)). Positivity of Pr⁡(ti)\Pr(t^i)Pr(ti) uses the added full-support assumption on the prior.

/-- **Lemma 1** (Wu, Amin, Ozdaglar, Oper. Res. 69(1) 2021, p. 154). `Γ(λ)` is a weighted
potential game (8) with potential `Φ` (9) and weights `γ(t^i) = Pr(t^i)`: `Φ` is continuously
differentiable, every weight `Pr(t^i)` is positive, and for every strategy profile `q` the
partial derivative of `Φ` in the coordinate `q^i_r(t^i)` is `Pr(t^i) 𝔼[c_r(q) | t^i]`. -/

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
