Let nnn be a natural number, V⊆RnV\subseteq\mathbb R^nV⊆Rn an open set, x∈Vx\in Vx∈V and iii a coordinate index. Then for all uuu in some neighbourhood of xix_ixi the point x[xi:=u]x[x_i:=u]x[xi:=u] (the point xxx with its iii-th coordinate replaced by uuu) lies in VVV:

∃ δ>0  ∀u, ∣u−xi∣<δ ⇒ x[xi:=u]∈V.\exists\,\delta>0\ \ \forall u,\ |u-x_i|<\delta\ \Rightarrow\ x[x_i:=u]\in V.∃δ>0  ∀u, ∣u−xi∣<δ ⇒ x[xi:=u]∈V.

(Stated as an eventually-true property in the neighbourhood filter of xix_ixi; n=0n=0n=0 is allowed and vacuous.)

Locality lemma: on an open domain, facts about a coordinate slice may be used only near the current coordinate value; it is what lets the certificates transfer differentiability from the domain to each one-variable slice.

Formalization Note Points are functions Fin n→R\mathrm{Fin}\,n\to\mathbb RFinn→R with the product topology; the conclusion is ∀ᶠ u in 𝓝 (x i), Function.update x i u ∈ V.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
