A finite family of triples (xi,gi,fi)(x_i,g_i,f_i)(xi,gi,fi) is interpolable by a convex function if and only if every ordered pair satisfies

fi≥fj+⟨gj,xi−xj⟩.f_i\geq f_j+\langle g_j,x_i-x_j\rangle.fi≥fj+⟨gj,xi−xj⟩.

This is the base interpolation criterion from which the smooth strongly convex condition is developed.

Formalization Note Interpolating functions are real-valued, and the index type is finite.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
