Structomorphisms and diffeomorphisms are equivalent while preserving the underlying homeomorphism
ProvedResearchGeometry.structomorph_diffeomorph_equivFor manifolds M and M′ of order n over one model with corners, there exists a bijection from the type of structomorphisms for the order-n differentiability groupoid to the type of order-n diffeomorphisms. For every structomorphism h, its image under this bijection has exactly the same underlying homeomorphism as h. The statement is a bijection of types, not a claim about topology on mapping spaces or categorical naturality.

Let be any nontrivially normed field, let be a normed additive commutative group with a normed -vector-space structure, let be a topological space, and let be a model with corners from to : its forward map is a continuous embedding defined on all of , its inverse is a continuous total map inverse on the range, and its range has nonempty interior; that range is convex over the induced real scalars when has a compatible real- or complex-field structure, and is all of otherwise. Let be any nonnegative integer, , or , denoting respectively finite differentiability order, smoothness, or analyticity, and let be topological spaces with chosen atlases and preferred local charts into , both satisfying the manifold compatibility condition for . Here that compatibility means every atlas transition and its inverse become in after conjugation by , on and respectively. There exists a bijection from the type of homeomorphisms equipped with the condition that every atlas coordinate expression and its inverse become after conjugation by on their respective model-coordinate domains, to the type of bijections for which both and are manifold maps relative to , such that for every such the homeomorphism underlying is exactly the homeomorphism underlying . Being a manifold map here means being continuous at every domain point and having the extended preferred-chart expression of class at within , where . The claimed bijection is an equivalence of the two types, with no further algebraic or topological structure imposed on that equivalence and no uniqueness assertion. Neither type of map is required to be inhabited, so the statement includes the case of two empty types of maps; it also includes empty underlying spaces, empty chart overlaps, and , and assumes neither finite-dimensionality nor completeness of .
