For any information cost λ>0\lambda>0λ>0 and any real prior parameter μ\muμ, the interior algebraic expression pˉ\bar ppˉ crosses the endpoints of the probability interval exactly at the thresholds of Theorem 1:

pˉ≥1  ⟺  μ≥μ‾,pˉ≤0  ⟺  μ≤μ‾.\bar p\ge 1\iff\mu\ge\overline\mu,\qquad \bar p\le 0\iff\mu\le\underline\mu.pˉ≥1⟺μ≥μ,pˉ≤0⟺μ≤μ.

These equivalences identify when the interior expression leaves [0,1][0,1][0,1] and hence where the closed form switches cases.

Formalization Note The equivalences are algebraic and hold for every real μ\muμ; the decision problem itself uses a probability prior.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
