Let AAA be a Dedekind domain with field of fractions KKK, and let p\mathfrak pp be a nonzero prime ideal of AAA. Then the localization Ap={a/s: a∈A, s∈A∖p}A_{\mathfrak p}=\{a/s:\ a\in A,\ s\in A\setminus\mathfrak p\}Ap={a/s: a∈A, s∈A∖p}, a valuation subring of KKK, is not all of KKK:

Ap≠K.A_{\mathfrak p}\ne K.Ap=K.

Thus ApA_{\mathfrak p}Ap is a place of KKK in the sense used throughout, a valuation subring different from the whole field. It is used in the classification of the places of the function field of the double cover (7), for Lemma 4 and Remark 5.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
