For a commutative ring AAA over a ring RRR, let ΩA/R\Omega_{A/R}ΩA/R be the module of Kähler differentials, with universal derivation d:A→ΩA/Rd:A\to\Omega_{A/R}d:A→ΩA/R. Let h∈C[t]h\in\mathbb C[t]h∈C[t] be such that W2−hW^2-hW2−h is irreducible over C(t)\mathbb C(t)C(t), let Lh=C(t)[W]/(W2−h)L_h=\mathbb C(t)[W]/(W^2-h)Lh=C(t)[W]/(W2−h), a field, and Rh=C[t][W]/(W2−h)R_h=\mathbb C[t][W]/(W^2-h)Rh=C[t][W]/(W2−h) its affine coordinate ring, and let t∈Lht\in L_ht∈Lh be the image of the variable.

The file defines one-element bases of the differentials of C[t]\mathbb C[t]C[t], of C(t)\mathbb C(t)C(t) and of LhL_hLh over C\mathbb CC, each given by dtdtdt:

ΩC[t]/C=C[t] dt,ΩC(t)/C=C(t) dt,ΩLh/C=Lh dt.\Omega_{\mathbb C[t]/\mathbb C}=\mathbb C[t]\,dt,\qquad \Omega_{\mathbb C(t)/\mathbb C}=\mathbb C(t)\,dt,\qquad \Omega_{L_h/\mathbb C}=L_h\,dt.ΩC[t]/C=C[t]dt,ΩC(t)/C=C(t)dt,ΩLh/C=Lhdt.

It also defines:

  1. The transport of bases: if S→TS\to TS→T is a formally étale homomorphism of RRR-algebras and ΩS/R\Omega_{S/R}ΩS/R has a one-element basis, the corresponding one-element basis of ΩT/R\Omega_{T/R}ΩT/R, obtained through the isomorphism T⊗SΩS/R≅ΩT/RT\otimes_S\Omega_{S/R}\cong\Omega_{T/R}T⊗SΩS/R≅ΩT/R.
  2. The local ring of the double cover at a point: for hhh squarefree and (c,d)∈C2(c,d)\in\mathbb C^2(c,d)∈C2 with d2=h(c)d^2=h(c)d2=h(c), the localization Oc,d⊆Lh\mathcal O_{c,d}\subseteq L_hOc,d⊆Lh of RhR_hRh at the kernel of the evaluation t↦ct\mapsto ct↦c, W↦dW\mapsto dW↦d.
  3. The transport of differentials along an isomorphism of RRR-algebras e:A→Be:A\to Be:A→B: the additive map ΩA/R→ΩB/R\Omega_{A/R}\to\Omega_{B/R}ΩA/R→ΩB/R with a db↦e(a) d(e(b))a\,db\mapsto e(a)\,d(e(b))adb↦e(a)d(e(b)).

The genus clause of Lemma 4 is computed in ΩLh/C\Omega_{L_h/\mathbb C}ΩLh/C for h=hm,αh=h_{m,\alpha}h=hm,α, where every differential is a multiple f dtf\,dtfdt and the holomorphic ones are those regular at every place. The local rings Oc,d\mathcal O_{c,d}Oc,d are where regularity at the point places is tested, and the transport moves differentials through the chart at infinity and between isomorphic function fields, as used for Remark 5.

Formalization Note: Differentials are Mathlib's KaehlerDifferential, bases are indexed by a one-element type, and the hypotheses on hhh are Fact instances. Besides definitions, the file keeps with proofs the facts they rely on: ΩLh/C\Omega_{L_h/\mathbb C}ΩLh/C has dimension one over LhL_hLh; each Oc,d\mathcal O_{c,d}Oc,d is a discrete valuation ring in which every element is congruent to a constant modulo the maximal ideal; it has a uniformizer uuu, and dududu generates both ΩOc,d/C\Omega_{\mathcal O_{c,d}/\mathbb C}ΩOc,d/C and ΩLh/C\Omega_{L_h/\mathbb C}ΩLh/C; and the differentials of two uniformizers differ by a unit of Oc,d\mathcal O_{c,d}Oc,d.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
