Let CabcC^a{}_{bc}Cabc be symmetric in b,cb,cb,c. Suppose that for every unit-timelike vector ξa\xi^aξa (i.e. taξa=1t_a\xi^a=1taξa=1),

Cabcξbξc=0.C^a{}_{bc}\xi^b\xi^c=0.Cabcξbξc=0.

Then Cabc=0C^a{}_{bc}=0Cabc=0 identically.

This is the standard polarization of a quadratic form on the Newton–Cartan unit-timelike cone in a global chart on R4\mathbb{R}^4R4: expanding in spatial velocity (p,q,r)(p,q,r)(p,q,r) yields a quadratic polynomial that vanishes for all (p,q,r)(p,q,r)(p,q,r), hence all coefficients vanish.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
