Let VVV be a real Hilbert space and consider min⁡x∈Vf(x)=h(x)+g(x)\min_{x\in V} f(x)=h(x)+g(x)minx∈Vf(x)=h(x)+g(x) (110), where h∈Sμ,L1,1h\in\mathcal S^{1,1}_{\mu,L}h∈Sμ,L1,1 with 0≤μ≤L<∞0\le\mu\le L<\infty0≤μ≤L<∞ and g:V→R∪{+∞}g:V\to\mathbb R\cup\{+\infty\}g:V→R∪{+∞} is proper, closed and convex. Let x∗∈dom⁡gx^*\in\operatorname{dom}gx∗∈domg be a minimiser of fff. Let (αk,γk,xk,yk,wk,vk)(\alpha_k,\gamma_k,x_k,y_k,w_k,v_k)(αk,γk,xk,yk,wk,vk) be generated by Algorithm 2 (Semi-APGM) with γ0>0\gamma_0>0γ0>0, η=1/L\eta=1/Lη=1/L, v0∈Vv_0\in Vv0∈V and x0∈dom⁡gx_0\in\operatorname{dom}gx0∈domg, and let

Then

The theorem gives an accelerated proximal gradient method with one proximal evaluation per iteration whose rate covers the convex case (μ=0\mu=0μ=0, rate O(L/k2)O(L/k^2)O(L/k2)) and the strongly convex case (μ>0\mu>0μ>0, linear rate (1+min⁡{γ0,μ}/L)−k(1+\sqrt{\min\{\gamma_0,\mu\}/L})^{-k}(1+min{γ0,μ}/L)−k) in one statement, exactly as Theorem 5.1 does for smooth fff.

Formalization Note. ggg is encoded by its domain D=dom⁡gD=\operatorname{dom}gD=domg and its real values on DDD; values off DDD are never used. Hypotheses made explicit: 0<L0<L0<L (the page divides by LLL and takes L\sqrt LL), γ0>0\gamma_0>0γ0>0 and αk>0\alpha_k>0αk>0 (Algorithm 2's input and step 2), x∗x^*x∗ a minimiser of fff over dom⁡g\operatorname{dom} gdomg (argmin f≠∅f\neq\emptysetf=∅, p. 2), and x0∈dom⁡gx_0\in\operatorname{dom}gx0∈domg, which is added: if x0∉dom⁡gx_0\notin\operatorname{dom}gx0∈/domg then L0=Cγ0,L=+∞\mathcal L_0=C_{\gamma_0,L}=+\inftyL0=Cγ0,L=+∞ and (87)–(88) are void on the page. The page's "(110) f∈Sμ,L1,1f\in\mathcal S^{1,1}_{\mu,L}f∈Sμ,L1,1" is read as h∈Sμ,L1,1h\in\mathcal S^{1,1}_{\mu,L}h∈Sμ,L1,1, as in (104) and Lemma 7.1, since f=h+gf=h+gf=h+g is nonsmooth. Powers with negative exponent are integer powers of positive reals; 4/k24/k^24/k2 is stated for k≥1k\ge1k≥1, as on the page.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
