This is the coercivity consequence of the integrated Bochner identity at Lipschitz regularity; it is related to Lemma A.6 of Letwin (2026).

Let EEE be a complete finite-dimensional real inner-product space with its Borel structure. Let U:E→RU:E\to\mathbb RU:E→R be C1C^1C1, with ∇U\nabla U∇U Lipschitz with constant G∈[0,∞)G\in[0,\infty)G∈[0,∞) and UUU Lipschitz with constant L∈[0,∞)L\in[0,\infty)L∈[0,∞). Assume e−Ue^{-U}e−U is integrable with respect to volume measure. Let f:E→Rf:E\to\mathbb Rf:E→R be smooth and compactly supported, and set ν=volume⁡.tilted⁡(−U)\nu=\operatorname{volume}.\operatorname{tilted}(-U)ν=volume.tilted(−U). Then:

  1. The function x↦⟨D(∇U)(x)∇f(x),∇f(x)⟩x\mapsto\langle D(\nabla U)(x)\nabla f(x),\nabla f(x)\ranglex↦⟨D(∇U)(x)∇f(x),∇f(x)⟩ is ν\nuν-integrable.
  2. The function x↦(LUf(x))2x\mapsto(\mathcal L_Uf(x))^2x↦(LUf(x))2 is ν\nuν-integrable.
  3. The Hessian pairing is bounded above by the squared weighted Laplacian:
∫⟨D(∇U)∇f,∇f⟩dν≤∫(LUf)2dν.\int\left\langle D(\nabla U)\nabla f,\nabla f\right\rangle d\nu \leq \int(\mathcal L_Uf)^2d\nu.∫⟨D(∇U)∇f,∇f⟩dν≤∫(LUf)2dν.

This supplies an ordinary diffusion coercivity estimate without a pointwise Hessian lower bound.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
