Here L\mathcal{L}L is the set of logarithms of algebraic numbers, and L~\widetilde{\mathcal{L}}L is the Q‾\overline{\mathbb{Q}}Q-vector space spanned by 111 and L\mathcal{L}L. The strong four exponentials conjecture (DiazModulus.StrongFourExponentials, Conjecture 11.17 of Waldschmidt's book) is carried as the hypothesis hS: if x1,x2x_1, x_2x1,x2 are linearly independent over Q‾\overline{\mathbb{Q}}Q and so are y1,y2y_1, y_2y1,y2, then one of the four products xiyjx_iy_jxiyj is not in L~\widetilde{\mathcal{L}}L.

Let λ∈L\lambda \in \mathcal{L}λ∈L, λ≠0\lambda \neq 0λ=0, and let u∈Cu \in \mathbb{C}u∈C with ∣u∣|u|∣u∣ algebraic. If euλe^{u\lambda}euλ is algebraic, then u∈Qu \in \mathbb{Q}u∈Q or uλ/λˉ∈Qu\lambda/\bar\lambda \in \mathbb{Q}uλ/λˉ∈Q.

This is the second open statement on p. 399 of Waldschmidt's book, a conjectural refinement of the Gel'fond–Schneider theorem that he derives from the strong four exponentials conjecture. Its case u∈L~u \in \widetilde{\mathcal{L}}u∈L follows from Roy's strong six exponentials theorem and Baker's theorem (DiazModulus.algebraic_modulus_log_multiplier_rational). Here every uuu is covered, and Baker's theorem is not needed.

Proof. Apply the conjecture to x=(1,u)x = (1, u)x=(1,u) and y=(λ,uˉλˉ)y = (\lambda, \bar u\bar\lambda)y=(λ,uˉλˉ). The four products are λ\lambdaλ, uˉλˉ=uλ‾\bar u\bar\lambda = \overline{u\lambda}uˉλˉ=uλ, uλu\lambdauλ and uuˉλˉ=∣u∣2λˉu\bar u\bar\lambda = |u|^2\bar\lambdauuˉλˉ=∣u∣2λˉ. The first three are logarithms of algebraic numbers (DiazModulus.logAlg_conj_stable) and the last is an algebraic multiple of one, so all four lie in L~\widetilde{\mathcal{L}}L. Hence xxx or yyy is linearly dependent over Q‾\overline{\mathbb{Q}}Q. If xxx is, uuu is algebraic, and Gelfond–Schneider (Schanuel.gelfond_schneider) applied to euλe^{u\lambda}euλ gives u∈Qu \in \mathbb{Q}u∈Q. If yyy is, uλ‾=cλ\overline{u\lambda} = c\lambdauλ=cλ with ccc algebraic; Gelfond–Schneider applied to ecλ=euλ‾e^{c\lambda} = \overline{e^{u\lambda}}ecλ=euλ gives c∈Qc \in \mathbb{Q}c∈Q, and conjugating, uλ=cλˉu\lambda = c\bar\lambdauλ=cλˉ.

Novelty. None: the statement, and the fact that it follows from the strong four exponentials conjecture, are Waldschmidt's (2000, p. 399), who obtains it in the same way as Diaz's refinement of the Hermite–Lindemann theorem (Diaz 1997). The book gives no configuration for it; the one above was chosen for this node. The contribution of this node is the formal proof.

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
