Let φ\varphiφ and φ′\varphi'φ′ be prize allocation rules that both satisfy endowment monotonicity and consistency. If

φ(N,R,E)=φ′(N,R,E)for every competition with ∣N∣=2,\varphi(N, \mathcal R, E) = \varphi'(N, \mathcal R, E) \quad \text{for every competition with } |N| = 2,φ(N,R,E)=φ′(N,R,E)for every competition with ∣N∣=2,

then φ(N,R,E)=φ′(N,R,E)\varphi(N, \mathcal R, E) = \varphi'(N, \mathcal R, E)φ(N,R,E)=φ′(N,R,E) for every competition (N,R,E)(N, \mathcal R, E)(N,R,E), with any number of competitors.

A consistent, monotone rule is therefore determined by its two-competitor part; in the proof of Theorem 1 this reduces the characterization to competitions with two competitors.

Formalization Note Agreement is stated competitor by competitor, over rankings and endowments E≥0E \ge 0E≥0 only.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
