Let v1,…,vnv_1,\dots,v_nv1,…,vn be XOS valuations on the items M={1,…,m}M=\{1,\dots,m\}M={1,…,m} given by XOS expressions, and let the greedy price-update algorithm of §3.3 run with any demand oracle and any XOS oracle for this profile. Write pnp^npn for the item prices after the last stage and A1,…,AnA_1,\dots,A_nA1,…,An for the allocation the algorithm generates, and pn(M)=∑j∈Mpjnp^n(M)=\sum_{j\in M}p^n_jpn(M)=∑j∈Mpjn. Then

pn(M)≤∑i=1nvi(Ai).p^n(M)\le \sum_{i=1}^n v_i(A_i).pn(M)≤i=1∑nvi(Ai).

Together with Lemma 3.6 this gives the approximation guarantee of Theorem 3.3: the final prices are a lower bound on the algorithm's welfare.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
