This is the trace formula for the posterior expectation Hessian against a symmetric operator.

Let EEE be a finite-dimensional complete real inner-product space, let μ\muμ be compactly supported, and let fff be measurable and bounded on the support by C≥0C\ge0C≥0. Let Q,M:E→EQ,M:E\to EQ,M:E→E be continuous linear maps, let (bi)(b_i)(bi) be an orthonormal basis indexed by a finite type ι\iotaι, and assume MMM is self-adjoint:

⟨Mu,v⟩=⟨u,Mv⟩.\langle Mu,v\rangle=\langle u,Mv\rangle.⟨Mu,v⟩=⟨u,Mv⟩.

For ν=μ.tilted⁡(quadraticExponent⁡(c,Q))\nu=\mu.\operatorname{tilted}(\operatorname{quadraticExponent}(c,Q))ν=μ.tilted(quadraticExponent(c,Q)) and a=posteriorMean⁡(μ,c,Q)a=\operatorname{posteriorMean}(\mu,c,Q)a=posteriorMean(μ,c,Q),

∑iDc2Eν[f](Mbi,bi)=Cov⁡ν(f,x↦⟨Mx,x⟩)−2Cov⁡ν(f,x↦⟨Ma,x⟩).\sum_i D_c^2\mathbb E_{\nu}[f](M b_i,b_i) =\operatorname{Cov}_{\nu}(f,x\mapsto\langle Mx,x\rangle) -2\operatorname{Cov}_{\nu}(f,x\mapsto\langle Ma,x\rangle).i∑Dc2Eν[f](Mbi,bi)=Covν(f,x↦⟨Mx,x⟩)−2Covν(f,x↦⟨Ma,x⟩).

This converts the Hessian contribution into the covariance expression used in the generator calculation.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
