Let XXX on (Ω,μ)(\Omega,\mu)(Ω,μ) and YYY on (Ω′,ν)(\Omega',\nu)(Ω′,ν) be integrable random variables with E[X]=E[Y]E[X]=E[Y]E[X]=E[Y]. Then

X≤cxY  ⟺  E∣X−a∣≤E∣Y−a∣for all a∈R.X \le_{cx} Y \iff E|X-a| \le E|Y-a| \quad \text{for all } a \in \mathbb{R}.X≤cxY⟺E∣X−a∣≤E∣Y−a∣for all a∈R.

This is a fully self-contained alternative to Theorem 3.A.1's tail-integral form, needing no external equation references: X≤cxYX \le_{cx} YX≤cxY holds exactly when YYY's mean absolute deviation from every point aaa dominates XXX's. (The function −E∣X−⋅∣-E|X-\cdot|−E∣X−⋅∣ is called the potential of XXX's law, so this restates X≤cxYX \le_{cx} YX≤cxY as a pointwise comparison of the two potentials.)

Formalization Note |X ω - a| is Mathlib's absolute value on ℝ; no separate "potential" definition is introduced since the theorem's content is fully captured by the raw inequality.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
