Let ppp be a prime, KKK a number field, UUU the semilocal units at ppp and ι:E→U\iota:E\to Uι:E→U the diagonal embedding of the global units. Then, as subgroups of UUU,

⋂n≥1ι(E) Upn  =  ι(E)‾  ∨  μ′(U),\bigcap_{n\ge1}\iota(E)\,U^{p^{n}} \;=\; \overline{\iota(E)}\;\vee\;\mu'(U),n≥1⋂ι(E)Upn=ι(E)∨μ′(U),

where ι(E)‾\overline{\iota(E)}ι(E) is the topological closure of ι(E)\iota(E)ι(E) in UUU, and μ′(U)\mu'(U)μ′(U) is the subgroup generated by (in fact equal to) the elements t∈Ut\in Ut∈U with tm=1t^m=1tm=1 for some mmm coprime to ppp. This is the exact description of the group Eˉ\bar EEˉ used in the definition of the Leopoldt defect (the platform's unitClosure): it contains the closure of the global units and differs from it only by the finite prime-to-ppp torsion of UUU.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
