This is the carré-du-champ product rule for a diffusion generator.

Let VVV be a real normed vector space, let b:V→Vb:V\to Vb:V→V be a drift field, and let σ:V→Fin⁡(d)→V\sigma:V\to\operatorname{Fin}(d)\to Vσ:V→Fin(d)→V be the noise-column field. If u,v:V→Ru,v:V\to\mathbb Ru,v:V→R are twice differentiable at xxx, then

L(uv)(x)=u(x)Lv(x)+v(x)Lu(x)+∑kDu(x)[σ(x,k)] Dv(x)[σ(x,k)].\mathcal L(uv)(x) =u(x)\mathcal Lv(x)+v(x)\mathcal Lu(x) +\sum_{k}Du(x)[\sigma(x,k)]\,Dv(x)[\sigma(x,k)].L(uv)(x)=u(x)Lv(x)+v(x)Lu(x)+k∑Du(x)[σ(x,k)]Dv(x)[σ(x,k)].

The generator diffusionGenerator uses the convention DF(x)[b(x)]+12∑kD2F(x)[σ(x,k),σ(x,k)]DF(x)[b(x)]+\frac12\sum_kD^2F(x)[\sigma(x,k),\sigma(x,k)]DF(x)[b(x)]+21∑kD2F(x)[σ(x,k),σ(x,k)]. This identity is a reusable analytic rule for products of test functions.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
