For a nest with positive product preference and space weights, every product individually fitting the capacity, and every u≥0u\ge0u≥0, the LP relaxation of (10) has an optimal solution xxx with at most one fractional coordinate. It can be chosen so that each selected product has strictly positive utility, and no unfilled product has a larger utility-to-space ratio than a selected product:

0<xj, xk<1⟹fik(u)≤fij(u).0<x_j,\ x_k<1\quad\Longrightarrow\quad f_{ik}(u)\le f_{ij}(u).0<xj, xk<1⟹fik(u)≤fij(u).

This is the greedy structure used to build a finite family of rounded LP assortments.

Formalization Note The product set is nonempty, wij>0w_{ij}>0wij>0, and vij>0v_{ij}>0vij>0; positivity of the weights makes the ratios defined.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
