Identify the Euclidean plane with C\mathbb CC and use the complex coordinates X=zX=zX=z, Y=zˉY=\bar zY=zˉ. Let m≥1m\ge 1m≥1 be an integer and let α∈C\alpha\in\mathbb Cα∈C be nonreal, α≠αˉ\alpha\ne\bar\alphaα=αˉ; the condition ∣α∣=1|\alpha|=1∣α∣=1 of the note is not required. Let Pα(X,Y)=Xm(α+XY)+Ym(αˉ+XY)P_\alpha(X,Y)=X^m(\alpha+XY)+Y^m(\bar\alpha+XY)Pα(X,Y)=Xm(α+XY)+Ym(αˉ+XY) be the polynomial of equation (6), and let Cm,α={z∈C:Pα(z,zˉ)=0}C_{m,\alpha}=\{z\in\mathbb C: P_\alpha(z,\bar z)=0\}Cm,α={z∈C:Pα(z,zˉ)=0} be its real locus, the curve Re⁡(zm(∣z∣2+α))=0\operatorname{Re}\bigl(z^m(|z|^2+\alpha)\bigr)=0Re(zm(∣z∣2+α))=0 of equation (1). Then Cm,αC_{m,\alpha}Cm,α meets every circle about the origin, including the degenerate one of radius 000: for every real r≥0r\ge 0r≥0 there is z∈Cz\in\mathbb Cz∈C with

z∈Cm,αand∣z∣=r.z\in C_{m,\alpha}\qquad\text{and}\qquad |z|=r.z∈Cm,αand∣z∣=r.

In the formalization this yields that Cm,αC_{m,\alpha}Cm,α is infinite, as stated in Lemma 4, and that it is not a circle; it also enters the count of the 2m2m2m points of Cm,αC_{m,\alpha}Cm,α on each circle ∣z∣=r>0|z|=r>0∣z∣=r>0 in the proof of Lemma 4.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
