Assume the standing assumptions and Assumption 1 with witnesses σ,Q1,Q2,T1,T2,δ,Q3,γ\sigma, \mathcal Q_1, \mathcal Q_2, \mathcal T_1, \mathcal T_2, \delta, \mathcal Q_3, \gammaσ,Q1,Q2,T1,T2,δ,Q3,γ, and let (xt,yt,zt)(x^t, y^t, z^t)(xt,yt,zt) be generated by the proximal ADMM. Put

R:=δI+T2−2σβHγ,Hγ=1γQ3+11−γT12.\mathcal R := \delta\mathcal I + \mathcal T_2 - \frac{2}{\sigma\beta}\mathcal H_\gamma, \qquad \mathcal H_\gamma = \frac1\gamma\mathcal Q_3 + \frac{1}{1-\gamma}\mathcal T_1^2 .R:=δI+T2−σβ2Hγ,Hγ=γ1Q3+1−γ1T12.

Then for all integers 1≤M0<N1 \le M_0 < N1≤M0<N

Lβ(xN,yN,zN)−Lβ(xM0,yM0,zM0)≤−12∑t=M0N−2∥xt+1−xt∥R2+12∥xM0−xM0−1∥2σβ(1−γ)T122.L_\beta(x^N, y^N, z^N) - L_\beta(x^{M_0}, y^{M_0}, z^{M_0}) \le -\frac12\sum_{t=M_0}^{N-2}\|x^{t+1} - x^t\|^2_{\mathcal R} + \frac12\|x^{M_0} - x^{M_0-1}\|^2_{\frac{2}{\sigma\beta(1-\gamma)}\mathcal T_1^2}.Lβ(xN,yN,zN)−Lβ(xM0,yM0,zM0)≤−21t=M0∑N−2∥xt+1−xt∥R2+21∥xM0−xM0−1∥σβ(1−γ)2T122.

(The sum is empty when N=M0+1N = M_0 + 1N=M0+1.)

It shows that the augmented Lagrangian decreases along the iterates up to a single boundary term.

Formalization Note The paper writes the summation start as MMM; here it is M0M_0M0, since M\mathcal MM is the linear map. Only the first and last members of the paper's chain are stated, additively in EReal.

/-- Eq. (21) of Li–Pong (p. 9): the summed estimate for the augmented Lagrangian, first and
last members, with `R = δ I + T₂ - (2/(σβ)) H_γ`. The summation start is `M₀` (the paper's `M`). -/

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
