Let ppp be a nonzero bivariate real polynomial (hp0:p≠0h_{p0} : p \neq 0hp0:p=0). Then its plane zero set is covered by the zero sets of its normalized factors:

PlaneCurveZeroSet p⊆⋃h∈(normalizedFactors p).toFinsetPlaneCurveZeroSet h.{\mathrm{PlaneCurveZeroSet}\,p \subseteq \bigcup_{h \in (\mathrm{normalizedFactors}\,p).\mathrm{toFinset}} \mathrm{PlaneCurveZeroSet}\,h.}PlaneCurveZeroSetp⊆h∈(normalizedFactorsp).toFinset⋃PlaneCurveZeroSeth.

This is the geometric counterpart of unique factorization: since ppp equals (up to a unit) the product of its normalized factors, every zero of ppp is a zero of some factor. It is the reduction step that lifts per-irreducible-component intersection bounds to reducible curves in the factorized Bezout bound.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
