Let vvv be a normalized, monotone, complement-free valuation on bundles of M={1,…,m}M=\{1,\dots,m\}M={1,…,m}, let T⊆MT\subseteq MT⊆M and let c∈Tc\in Tc∈T be an item maximizing v({j})v(\{j\})v({j}) over j∈Tj\in Tj∈T. Then

v(T)  ≤  ∑j∈Tv({j})  ≤  ∣T∣⋅v({c}).v(T)\;\le\;\sum_{j\in T} v(\{j\})\;\le\;|T|\cdot v(\{c\}).v(T)≤j∈T∑v({j})≤∣T∣⋅v({c}).

This is the step "vi({ci})≥vi(Ti)/∣Ti∣v_i(\{c_i\})\ge v_i(T_i)/|T_i|vi({ci})≥vi(Ti)/∣Ti∣" of the second case of the proof of Theorem 5.1: a subadditive bidder's value for a small bundle is recovered, up to the bundle's size, by its most valuable single item.

Formalization Note The division by ∣T∣|T|∣T∣ of the paper is avoided by stating the multiplied form; c∈Tc\in Tc∈T makes TTT nonempty.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
