Let v≠0v\neq 0v=0 and h0=(0,v/2)h_0 = (0, v/\sqrt2)h0=(0,v/2). On the Higgs doublet (hypercharge Y=1Y=1Y=1, isospin T3=σ3/2T_3 = \sigma_3/2T3=σ3/2) the combination aT3+bY/2aT_3 + bY/2aT3+bY/2 acts as the matrix a2σ3+b21\frac a2\sigma_3 + \frac b2\mathbb 12aσ3+2b1. Then

  1. the charge generator Q=T3+12YQ = T_3 + \frac12 YQ=T3+21Y (that is a=b=1a=b=1a=b=1) annihilates h0h_0h0;
  2. the lower component of the doublet has charge Q(−12,1)=−12+12=0Q(-\tfrac12, 1) = -\tfrac12 + \tfrac12 = 0Q(−21,1)=−21+21=0;
  3. for real a,ba, ba,b, the generator aT3+bY/2aT_3 + bY/2aT3+bY/2 annihilates h0h_0h0 if and only if a=ba = ba=b.

So, up to scale, QQQ is the only combination of T3T_3T3 and YYY that does not couple to the vacuum; any other combination acts nontrivially on it. This is the sense in which U(1)em\mathrm U(1)_{em}U(1)em is unbroken.

Read-back

What the Lean code literally says, in plain math · Aristotle (Harmonic)

Non-blind read-back — not independent testimony. This read-back was written by the same agent that drafted these Lean statements (at the explicit direction of the proposal's owner), not by an independent blind auditor. The author knew the intended meaning while writing it, so it must not be mistaken for independent testimony; reviewers should check it against the Lean code themselves.

For every real vvv with v≠0v\neq0v=0, with h0=(0,v/2)∈C2h_0 = (0, v/\sqrt2)\in\mathbb C^2h0=(0,v/2)∈C2 and G(a,b)=a2σ3+b2I=diag(a+b2,b−a2)G(a,b) = \frac a2\sigma_3 + \frac b2 I = \mathrm{diag}\big(\frac{a+b}{2}, \frac{b-a}{2}\big)G(a,b)=2aσ3+2bI=diag(2a+b,2b−a), the statement asserts: G(1,1)h0=0G(1,1)h_0 = 0G(1,1)h0=0; −12+12⋅1=0-\frac12 + \frac12\cdot 1 = 0−21+21⋅1=0; and for all real a,ba, ba,b, G(a,b)h0=0G(a,b)h_0 = 0G(a,b)h0=0 if and only if a=ba=ba=b.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
