Let XXX be a set with n=2kn=2^kn=2k elements, k≥3k\ge3k≥3, and let f:P(X)→Xf:\mathcal P(X)\to Xf:P(X)→X be arbitrary. For a kkk-subset Y⊆XY\subseteq XY⊆X write Lf(Y)=n−∣{f(A):A⊆Y}∣L_f(Y)=n-|\{f(A):A\subseteq Y\}|Lf(Y)=n−∣{f(A):A⊆Y}∣ for the number of points of XXX missed by fff on the subsets of YYY. Let K=(Xk)\mathcal K=\binom{X}{k}K=(kX). Theorem.

∣K∣  ≤  64 ∣{Y∈K: n≤64 Lf(Y)}∣,|\mathcal K|\;\le\;64\,\bigl|\{Y\in\mathcal K:\ n\le 64\,L_f(Y)\}\bigr|,∣K∣≤64{Y∈K: n≤64Lf(Y)},

i.e. Pr⁡Y(Lf(Y)≥n/64)≥1/64\Pr_Y\bigl(L_f(Y)\ge n/64\bigr)\ge 1/64PrY(Lf(Y)≥n/64)≥1/64 for a uniformly random kkk-set YYY.

It follows from the averaged bound robust_alon_sum since 0≤Lf≤n0\le L_f\le n0≤Lf≤n. This is the 'robust Alon' statement: a linear number of points is missed with constant probability, uniformly in fff.

Formalization Note. X=Fin (2k)X=\mathrm{Fin}\,(2^k)X=Fin(2k); the statement is in counting form (sums over kkk-subsets, natural numbers), with no probability.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
