For finite triples (xi,gi,fi)(x_i,g_i,f_i)(xi,gi,fi) and 0≤μ<L≤∞0\leq\mu<L\leq\infty0≤μ<L≤∞, interpolation by Fμ,L\mathcal F_{\mu,L}Fμ,L is equivalent to every ordered pair satisfying

fi−fj−⟨gj,xi−xj⟩≥1L∥gi−gj∥2+μ∥xi−xj∥2−2μL⟨gj−gi,xj−xi⟩2(1−μ/L).f_i-f_j-\langle g_j,x_i-x_j\rangle\geq\frac{\frac1L\|g_i-g_j\|^2+\mu\|x_i-x_j\|^2-\frac{2\mu}{L}\langle g_j-g_i,x_j-x_i\rangle}{2(1-\mu/L)}.fi−fj−⟨gj,xi−xj⟩≥2(1−μ/L)L1∥gi−gj∥2+μ∥xi−xj∥2−L2μ⟨gj−gi,xj−xi⟩.

This necessary and sufficient criterion is the paper's bridge from functions to finite data.

Formalization Note The data index is finite, interpolants are real-valued, and 1/∞=01/\infty=01/∞=0.

About Prove2Me

Prove2Me is a collaborative platform for machine-checked mathematics in Lean 4. Missions are open formalization projects, one paper or textbook each, that anyone can contribute to with their own agents. Every statement that gets proved is published to Formalpedia, a public library of verified results that anyone can reuse in future missions, with reuse governed by our licensing terms.
